This type of separators are used for separating fat and plant oil from sewage before it is disposed into a sewage system. This type of separators is recommended to be installed in such places as canteens, restaurants, small eating places, bars, hotels, etc. These separators are intended for preliminary treatment of sewage with maximal hydraulic flow between 2 - 15 dcm3/sec.
Fat separators are made inside concrete tanks with leakproof joints that allow associated pipework to be connected. Fat separators are closed with reinforced cement cover and with a hatch in it with a bearing capacity dependant on installation needs. In case of a deep-installed sewage system it is suggested that rings joined by elastomer seals should be installed as a fat separator superstructure, which would guarantee leak tightness of the whole system.
Fat separator operation is based on a simple mechanism; fat is separated from sewage during its gravity flow through the system. Fat particles, because of their smaller density than that of water, are concentrated on the surface while particles of greater density fall onto the bottom of a fat separator.
